This was a complete remodel of a home in the Queen Anne neighborhood. Creating additional living space required going down, as the small lot did not allow adding on space. Raising the house was also not an option, as it already was sited fairly high above the sidewalks.
Going down involved building a new foundation to create additional basement space. This lower level was day-lighted on the east side, and connected underground to a new terrace style tandem garage. The new basement provided a play area for the children, and guest room and bath
The kitchen was opened to the formal dining room, with a half bath added out the back, which also serves a gazebo with a fireplace, and the terrace over the garage.
